Loving father to Allan (Patricia) Britz, Susan (Stephen) Tuttle, and Marianne Whitten. Dearest grandfather to Patrick, Brendan, Sarah, Ellen, David, and great-grandfather to Charlotte Jo. He is survived by his brother Don and sisters Dorothy and Joyce. He is preceded in death by his son Joseph (Catherine) Britz, parents Elmer and Mildred Britz, brother Alvin, and sisters Bernice, Elaine, and Jane. Edwin attended St. Mary’s School in Rockwood, MI from grades 1-8. He then attended St. Francis Xavier High School in Ecorse MI and graduated in 1948. He then continued his education and graduated from Lawrence Technological University in 1960. Edwin started work at Timken Axle in 1950 (which later became Rockwell Standard, Rockwell International, then Meritor) as a Product Designer, in Detroit and Troy, MI. He retired in 1989 after 39 years of service.  Edwin was an Honorably Discharged Veteran who proudly served in the Korean War.  He was drafted in October 1951 and attended U.S. Army Basic Training at Fort Riley, Kansas and U.S. Army Field Artillery School at Fort Lewis, Washington.  Upon completion of his training, he deployed on a troop transport to Pusan, Korea for service with the 7th Infantry “Hourglass Division”.  There he was involved in numerous engagements against North Korea.  He attained the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and was honorably discharged in September 1953 after nearly 2 years of active-duty service.  He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the United Nations Korean Service Medal for his service.  Through the years, his interests & hobbies included golfing, bowling, playing cards (Euchre, Hearts, Gin Rummy), Sudoku, gardening, several genres of music, keeping up with current news events & politics, bird watching, craft beer, and keeping in touch with his work friends after retirement. During his free time outside of his daily work schedule, he was a talented handyman and enjoyed doing home improvements/renovations on his home, as well as performing other outside residential/commercial construction work.
